Yaya Toure says he would like to play with Paul Pogba

Former Manchester City star Yaya Toure has said that he would like to play with Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, though he ruled out any possibility of joining the Red Devils. The 35-year-old was released from the Citizens following their recent Premier League triumph and he has since indicated his desire to remain in England.

Speaking to The Manchester Evening News, the Ivory Coast international admired Pogba’s playing style and believes the Frenchman has similar characteristics to him, he said: “I love Paul Pogba. Pogba – it’s difficult because of the way the media has treated him. We don’t have the same characteristics because for me I was involved in all the ball, I ran everywhere. It is a player I want to play with, to be honest, just to teach him some things.” However, when asked further about a possible move to United, the midfielder dismissed the prospect by saying:“No, no, no, no. The fans are going to kill me!”

Toure won three Premier League titles during his eight-year stay with the Citizens but he would have probably preferred to play more during his last two years under Pep Guardiola. Nevertheless, the Ivorian has made a huge mark on the club’s history and he is now looking forward to possibly joining another mid-table Premier League club rather than moving overseas.

In an earlier interview, Toure stressed that he does not want to leave England with his children having grown up in the country and agent Dimitri Seluk has supposedly been tasked with the job of finding Toure with another English club. Both West Ham United and Everton have recently been associated with the midfielder’s services but neither appears likely to make an approach, considering they have placed their emphasis on signing players for the long-run. West Ham recently appointed former City boss Manuel Pellegrini, as their new head coach but Everton remain manager-less for the moment.
