Former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo believes David Silva should be regarded as the greatest ever player for the Citizens ahead of Sergio Aguero. The Citizens recently bagged their fourth league title in eight seasons and Negredo feels Silva has been a greater influence on the team during this period.
Speaking to The National, Negredo said that he has a liking for Aguero, who is the club’s all-time leading goalscorer. However, the Spain international added that Silva is probably the best player ever to don the club’s shirt, considering the vision when it comes to finding the perfect pass for the frontmen.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne may have been figured out during the ongoing campaign with the team adopting the same style of play under Pep Guardiola. The Citizens have already suffered more defeats in the Premier League than the entirety of the previous season but they are still in the running to secure a historic quadruple.
Speaking to reporters, De Bruyne highlighted that teams may have become fond of their gameplay under Guardiola but that is unlikely to force them to change. He added that even a treble can be deemed a huge success after league and Cup double last term and the task of winning all four competitions remains a tedious task nonetheless.
City fans can breathe a sigh of relief this morning, with dynamic midfielder David Silva pledging his future to the club despite reported interest from Real Madrid.
Silva has become something of a revelation at the Etihad Stadium since signing from Valencia in 2010, managing to score nineteen goals in just over one hundred appearances for the club. Having contributed hugely to their recent Premier League success, it’s no surprise to see that Silva has caught the eye of some of Europe’s other big clubs, with Real Madrid thought to have at least made an enquiry over the 26-year-old’s availability.
However, Silva’s agent has today stated that his client is more than happy with his situation at Manchester City. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Julio Llorente said, “David has signed a long deal with Manchester City and is very happy at the club. Football is always unpredictable but he wants to stay in England. Real Madrid is a big club as well and they were interested when he was at Valencia but the deal was not possible. We are ignoring the plans of Real Madrid because he is very integrated at City and winning the Premier League has only increased his commitment to the club.”
That would appear to be the end of the saga, with the 26-year-old contracted to City until 2014 and seemingly happy to stay until then. Moreover, the former Valencia man is all but certain of a regular starting place at City, having become the first name on the team sheet through the two years he has spent at the Etihad Stadium. With Roberto Martinez also not looking to invest in the wide areas of his team, it appears as though Silva’s situation at City is perfect and he has absolutely no reason to seek a new club.
