PREMIER LEAGUE: CITY HANDED TOUGH START

Premier League champions Manchester City will begin the defence of the league title they won last season with a tough set of fixtures in the new season starting in August after the Premier League released fixtures for the new season on Wednesday. In the new fixtures made public by the Premier League, Manchester City will start their title defence in London against another top six team, Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester City have lost in each of their last two games at Tottenham Hotspur and this is a feat that no other Premier League team can match to highlight the tough opening handed to the Citizens. Dutchman Steven Bergwijn and South Korean attacker Son Heung-Min were the goalscorers when Spurs beat City 2-0 in the same fixture two seasons ago before Son scored again as the North Londoners repeated the 2-0 scoreline under the same manager, Jose Mourinho. Son scored in the first half before Argentine international Giovanni Lo Celso wrapped up the win in the second half.

Manchester City fans would be delighted that Spurs have sacked Mourinho who masterminded the two aforementioned wins. The North London giants have since replaced Mourinho with Paulo Fonseca, the ex-Roma boss. Coincidentally, Mourinho is the chosen one for Roma after the Portuguese man was appointed as the replacement for Fonseca.

After the away game at Spurs, Manchester City have two successive home games against newly promoted team Norwich City in week two and the week three clash against top six club Arsenal. Manchester City will then face a tricky game at the home of Leicester City in week four before the home game with Southampton in week five. The Citizens will then face Chelsea away from home in week six in what’s the repeat of last season’s Champions League final. Chelsea have beaten Manchester City in all their three encounters under new boss Thomas Tuchel.
