Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez remains the top priority for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
The Chile international enjoyed a stupendous season with the north London giants as he single-handedly kept them in a respectable position in the league. The Gunners finished fifth overall in the English top flight, and they have since been in negotiations with Sanchez over a new contract.
The former Barcelona man has just a year left on his previous deal and he is seemingly reluctant to extend his terms further owing to the lack of Champions League football – something which is a rarity under Arsene Wenger. Sanchez suggested last week that his representative Fernando Felicevich would take care of his future as he aims to earn further glory with Chile, who will be facing the world’s best in the Confederations Cup held in Russia this month. The clock signaled injury time and in that moment Sergio Aguero somehow managed to skip past Bailly, flick the ball across David de Gea’s goalpost for Gabriel Jesus to tap in and wriggle away towards the stands, chased by his team mates until the linesman cut short their joy.
As it turned out, the Brazilian youngster was offside by a fraction thus was denied the fairytale of the 20-year old who came back from a supposed season-ending injury to score a 90th minute winner against archrivals Manchester United; at least not yet.
Not to worry though, he only waited three more days to get a slice of such ecstasy courtesy of his 85th minute equalizer against Middlesborough to keep The Citizens’ hope for a top four finish alive.
Gabriel Jesus’ arrival at the Etihad has proven to be worth every sweat and penny expended to make such signing possible. His stay so far has churned out a sellable success story and sadly at the same time illuminated the not so a success story of the another youngster kelechi Iheanacho whose shortcomings single handedly triggered the no. 33’s purchase from Brazilian outfit, Palmeiras. Manchester City will be looking to finish in the top three places of the Premier league in order to qualify for the Champions League without any unwanted qualification games.
Reaching the group stages directly will help the club plan for next season. After having managed only three wins in the last five league matches, City are on 72 points. They trail Liverpool by just one point, but the Manchester outfit have the opportunity to leapfrog the Merseyside club by managing to win the game in hand against West Brom. This match will take place in the midweek followed by the final match of the season against Watford.
The game against West Brom will be the final home match of the season, but Pep Guardiola says that he is extremely wary of the opponents. Despite having nothing to play for, West Brom showed a lot of fighting spirit in the recent game against Chelsea. The blues had to work for their 1-0 win, which ultimately landed them the Premier League title. Continue reading
Pep Guardiola says that he has improved as a manager since joining Manchester City, but fans have been left dissatisfied with the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager’s first season at the club.
After arriving with a lot of fanfare in the summer, City are looking set to finish the season without any major trophies. The club have come close to titles on a few occasions, but they have been found wanting over the course of the campaign. After the 2-1 extra time defeat against Arsenal during the weekend, the only hope of silverware in the form of an FA Cup title disappeared.
The big objective for City will now be to finish in the top four with Manchester United hunting them down in the Premier League table with alarming consistency. United are unbeaten in the league since October, and they have been able to reduce the deficit upon City to just one point. City take on United in a crucial Manchester derby on Thursday night. Brazilian sensation Gabriel Jesus is back in the Manchester City camp as he recovers from his foot injury.
The player only joined in January, making an impressive start before he broke a bone in his foot on February 14 when City played Premier League rivals Bournemouth.
The player clocked 20 on Monday, and he returned to trsaining that same day despite fears that he might sit the rest of his debut season out. Jesus scored three goals in four games after he finally resumed following his £27million transfer from Palmeiras. He provided succor as Sergio Aguero was not at his best. He seemed to be the game changer for City this term before the fractured metatarsal incident. Continue reading
Pep Guardiola has tried to contribute his share of the mind games by claiming that Chelsea have been unstoppable this season.
A number of Premier League managers have tried to unsettle Chelsea, who have been the best team in the Premier league by a significant margin. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suggested prior to the end of 2016 that Chelsea would be struggling in the league if not for the presence of Diego Costa. Back then, the Spaniard was scoring most of the goals and was leading the goal scoring charts. However, his form has deteriorated significantly ever since rumours about a move to China came about.
However, it has not been a problem for Chelsea who have just kept on winning. Even though the incredible 13 game winning run might have ended with the loss against Tottenham, the blues have been able to extend their lead at the top of the table courtesy of their main title rivals dropping points along the way. Chelsea’s recent form has not been spectacular with the team only managing three wins in the last five games. Continue reading
Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus said on Wednesday that he had been “surprised” by his extraordinary start to life in the Premier League.
The Brazilian forward who has scored three goals in four games since completing his 27 million move from Brazilian side Palmeiras, has admitted that he is delighted with his strong start for the club, but is ‘very surprised’ at how fast it has happened.
The 19-year old rising star arrived in England last month after City agreed a deal with Brazilian side Palmeiras in pre-season.
While some overseas players take time to adjust to the physicality and pace of the Premier League, Jesus has settled in immediately with three goals in four appearances, including a double in Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to Swansea.
Such has been his impact, he has kept Argentina ace Sergio Aguero out of the side for the last two matches and Kelechi Iheanacho out of the squad altogether, which has in turn led to speculation about the future of both strikers at Manchester. Continue reading
According to Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, the club is out of the league race as they are far behind Chelsea with ten points, following a loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
The loss happened to be the heaviest league loss in Guardiola’s career as a manager.
Concerning his thoughts about the gap between his team and Chelsea, Guardiola admitted that the gap is a great one, affirming that ten is a lot of points. Although, he has encouraged his team players to remain focused and stay together in unity during bad moments and ignore what the table might have to tell until the end of the season.
Guardiola said: “At the end of the season, we are going to evaluate our level and how our performance was, how the coach was, how the players were. After that we are going to decide. We created chances, but we didn’t score and when they had chances, they punished us.” Continue reading
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender Vincent Kompany still remains in his plans despite the numerous injury problems faced by the Belgian international.
The last time the 30-year-old made more than 40 appearances in a single campaign across all competitions was back in the 2011-12 campaign. Since then, he has been plagued by a one injury after the other and it has especially become worse in the last couple of seasons. He made only 22 appearances last season and most were as a substitute, while the season he has suffered featured in only five games.
Kompany was expected to be an integral part of the Guardiola regime considering that he is one of the top ball-playing centre backs around. However, his injury concern is a major problem for the club considering that they have been struggling on a defensive front with the leadership skills of the Belgian.
Manuel Pellegrini has opened up on the exit from Manchester City by saying that the club always wanted to bring in Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard took over from the Chilean in the summer. During his three years with City, Pellegrini was responsible for winning the league title once and FA Cup. He also won the League Cup in his final season at the club. Unlike at Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola will not be faced with the huge amount of pressure from his predecessor. As a result, he has started the season extremely well with the team conceding the top spot only now.
Pellegrini’s exit was confirmed even before the end of last season. The former Real Madrid boss says that the club had been trying to get the former Barcelona manager even as back as 2013. Then, Guardiola decided to avoid the City revolution, which was still in its infancy, and join Bayern Munich instead.
The move to the German club has brought him a fair share of success and criticism. After being able to win the German league title three times in succession and in record time, Guardiola was unable to repeat the Champions League success from Barcelona.
Pellegrini says that since City were very clear about their objectives, he does not have any problem with the exit.
“When they signed me, [Manchester] City were very clear with me. They came for me and they told me that they wanted Pep Guardiola or me.Guardiola did not want to sign and I did it for three years. I fulfilled my phase and Pep wanted to coach in England because he had spent many years in Barcelona. There is no problem.I had two offers [from Spain]. Luckily, there were teams interested in me. It does not matter who they were,” said Pellegrini.
