New contract for Mancini?
While there has been plenty of speculation regarding players coming into the club, a lot of people have ignored the fact that personnel could actually depart Manchester City this summer. One of the rumours that have been circulating the newspapers this weekend is a potential move for Roberto Mancini to Russia, yet it appears as though City chiefs have acted swiftly and are about to offer the Italian a brand new contract to remain at the Etihad Stadium.
The reports have indicated that the Russian national team are interested in acquiring Mancini’s services, with ludicrous figures such as a six-year £35m contract being branded about. Such a financial package would not seem unrealistic, with the nation reportedly paying recent coaches Dick Advocaat and Guus Hiddink similarly high sums.
It would be fair to say that Mancini has been linked with the exit door for some time now and many thought that if the club had not lifted the Premier League title, he would have been shown his marching orders. However, following that success, speculation has cooled significantly – up until now.
Hopefully, the situation is about to resolve itself. Following the rumours, City quickly commented on the matter and stated that talks on a new contract for Mancini had already initiated. The club told the Daily Mail, “We’re having our discussions on his contract that started at the end of the season. We think it’ll conclude in the coming days, get sorted and signed off. He’s definitely off to Austria on Sunday with the team, not Moscow!”
Following such action from City, it would be hard to imagine Mancini opting to leave at this point in his career. As well as being a favorite amongst the City supporters, Mancini knows that he has the perfect opportunity to establish the club as one of the best in the world over the next few years.
