NAVAS TURNED DOWN ARSENAL
Manchester City summer signings Jesus Navas, who is believed to have been signed for around £ 18 million, has said that he turned down the opportunity to join Arsenal a few years ago. The former Sevilla winger has been one of the best players in Spanish football over the last five years. However, he has been unable to move away from Sevilla due to several reasons. Up until now, Navas has been suffering from home sickness and anxiety, which have prevented him from moving away from Sevilla. He has been extensively consulted by Manchester City before he completed the move to the Premier league.
Arsenal were interested in the winger several years ago, but they were unable to persuade the 27-year-old to join them. He has said that Sevilla were extremely successful back then by regularly qualify for the Champions League. Hence, he did not see any necessary to move away from this hometown club. He has said that the Premier league will certainly suit his style because he has always been a fan of fast football. Navas is going to be one of the quickest players in the Premier league. He has said that speed is his biggest asset and it helped him open up opposition.
He is expected to bring a new dimension to City’s play in the coming season.
“At that time, I was still winning and achieving things at Seville and therefore it wasn’t the right time to move. My time at Seville was great but we have not won anything for two or three years and I feel now is the right time to move on as I am ambitious to win things. I will always demand 100 per cent from myself so for that reason it was the right time to go. It was a few years ago now and it’s all in the past and I’ve moved on. Otherwise I wouldn’t be here now,” said Navas.
