Merrill Pellegrini is a man under crisis

Merrill Pellegrini is a man under crisis after his Manchester City team suffered yet another defeat. This defeat came in the Manchester Derby against archrivals United. The 4-2 loss not only has ended their title challenge but it has also put them into contention with Liverpool for a top four place. The fact that Brendan Rodgers and his team were able to take advantage of this defeat has made it extremely hard for the club. The club will be ending the campaign without any trophies and this is a major negative aspects for Pellegrini in his efforts to stay at City.

Amidst several reports that the club are looking at alternatives like Carlo Ancelotti and Laurent Blanc, Pellegrini says that he will not discuss his future right now. The 3-0 victory over West Brom is the only success that City had in the last five matches. Pellegrini recently criticised the sacking culture in the Premier league where he claimed that managers are not given enough time to show their qualities. After having won the league title last campaign, but the club were expected to kick on and possibly reach the final of the Champions League. Despite taking the lead against United, City played very poorly in the 75 minutes and were deservedly beaten.

“I’m not talking about my position. I think it was a clear result for Manchester United. We started very well in the first 20 minutes. After that I think they started playing better than us.They started playing with a lot of class and were clear winners. We didn’t defend well, particularly for the goals. We lost many points, not only in this game. We must play not for 20 minutes but the whole game. Maybe [squad spirit] is something we can be concerned about,” said Pellegrini.
