Mancini: City need to concentrate

Despite making history by winning the Premier League title last term, Roberto Mancini says that his players must forget about that feat and pour all their efforts into next season. The Italian claims that City have an even harder job to defend their crown and is calling on everyone at the club to forget their previous success, and concentrate on the future.

Mancini has been linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium but had his future resolved last week after signing a bumper 5-year contract. He now says that everyone at the club should make a real effort to prepare for the upcoming campaign, as City will have many more troubles in defending their title as other clubs look to knock them off their perch.

He told City TV, “We did a good job for the last two years and I hope we can do a better one in the next five. But we cannot rest or start thinking that because we won the title that we are the best. It is more difficult to win the title when you are defending champions. We start again as if from nothing – we must forget that we won the title. Every team will want to beat us and we must work harder than ever.”

As well as stating his ambitions, Mancini has also confirmed that he no longer has any issue with Carlos Tevez and wants him to remain at the club. Such comments come following intense speculation about the Argentine, with reports linking him with a move to AC Milan.

City supporters will now be hoping that Mancini can start acting in the transfer market. Having seen several of their rivals recruit players, it appears strange that the richest club on the planet have been exceptionally quiet. With exactly one month remaining until the new season, it now remains to be seen if this stays the case.
