Manchester City made history in the 2015-16 season
Manchester City made history in the 2015-16 season by qualifying for the Champions League semi-final for the first time in their history.

Up until now, the club has faced numerous disappointments especially in European competitions. One of the best records they had in Europe was reaching the last 16 stage where they have already faced numerous exits at the hands of clubs like Barcelona. Their poor UEFA coefficient has been claimed as the reason for City not getting favourable draws in group and knockout stages. However, they have managed to show some improvement in Europe for all the spending under the regime of the Middle East owners.
City came close to reaching the Champions League final after managing a decent result against Real Madrid in the first leg. Poor performance in the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu, though, led to their exit from the competition. Still, this was seen as a very valiant effort from the team who are considered as novices at this stage of the competition. Gael Clichy has experienced a little success in the Champions League before even though he has been playing in this competition for a long time. Now, he is targeting the next step of reaching the final or even winning the trophy.
“It’s a big game for the club and I know how lucky we are because it’s not every season that you play in a semifinal of the Champion League. It’s a special moment for the players and club but the moment will only be special if we go through tomorrow. We’re ready for it and we’re looking forward to making history and history would be to go through tomorrow. We will need a very good performance if we want to reach the final,” said Clichy, who has become the first choice left back in the last few months.
