KLOPP WANTS TO SIGN PLAYER GUARDIOLA SOLD FOR JUST £12 MILLION

Liverpool are looking to bring Getafe striker Enes Unal to Anfield this summer. That’s according to Turkish site Fanatik, who claim that the 24-year-old has been identified as a replacement for outgoing forwards Divock Origi and Takumi Minami no. It’s claimed that Unal isn’t actually at the top of The Reds’ transfer wish list this summer – that honour reportedly falls to Darwin Nunez. But with a price-tag of £70m and with Manchester City chasing him, Fantaik claim that Liverpool will settle for Unal.

The Reds reportedly believe that the Turk is well-suited to Jurgen Klopp’s gegenpressing system. This is due to his explosive speed and, more puzzlingly, his aerial dominance. Unal has been excellent for Getafe in La Liga this season. Only Karim Benzema has scored more than his 15 league goals. After something of a nomadic career so far, he has settled at Getafe since joining them from Villarreal in 2020. Before that, he had previously spent three years at Manchester City.

Arriving at the Etihad 2015, he spent the following years being farmed out to teams in Belgium and Holland. Aside from a spell at FC Twente where he bagged 19 times, he wasn’t a prolific scorer for any of them. Having never played for City, Pep Guardiola eventually sold him to Villarreal amid work permit issues in 2017.

City still managed to recoup £12m for him, though, and inserted a buy-back clause of around £21m to boot. That clause is no longer active following Unal’s transfer to Getafe two years ago. In terms of Liverpool forwards, he looks to be much more on the Origi end of the spectrum than any of Klopp’s current attacking options. At 6 ft 1inch, Unal is a presence in the box and has good speed to match. He also looks to be a good carrier of the ball.
