City suffer disappointment

Manchester City suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich but they came very close to getting a result at the Allianz Arena. Manuel Pellegrini criticised the seeding system of UEFA just before the match after City were once again drawn up against Bayern in the group stages of the Champions League. However, it was much better performance from the Premier League outfit than in previous seasons after the almost snatched a draw only to be beaten by a late goal from their former player, Jerome Boateng. The 1-0 win for Bayern gives them a great start to the campaign.

There are few doubts about the ability of the German club to withstand the City team that has been improving a lot in recent years. After winning the league title two times in the last three seasons, City would have been hoping to have much better than their recent visits to this ground. However, they were coming up against a Bayern Munich team that has failed to win only one of their competitive matches this season. The 1-1 draw with Schalke stands out from the rest of the crowd, as it remains the only match were Guardiola’s Bayern Munich failed to win.

After the match, Guardiola praised his team by saying that they showed a lot of desire to get this victory. “Everybody is happy we have our first three points in this hard group. We had many chances against a very good team. At the start we had some problem with the possession. We then switched from three at the back to four at the back and it got better. You have to understand that Rafinha and Benatia have played very little recently. They played well and showed big heart,” said Guardiola, who was once linked with the managerial job at City.
