City closing in on Jovetic?

After experiencing so many struggles to bring in players through the summer, it looks as though Roberto Mancini is already preparing for next year by lining up a premature signing. According to several newspaper reports, the Blues are set to land Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic on a pre-contract agreement.

Practically every newspaper has got in on the action and they all claim that Jovetic will cost the club around £12m. Many have already commented that this seems to be a very low price, considering the fact that Jovetic has been chased by European’s biggest clubs having established himself as one of the top strikers in Italian football.
However, if the 22-year-old does arrive at the Etihad Stadium, he will have almost certainly experienced a change of heart.

The player has recently stated that he turned down a move to City this summer, as he told Gazzetta dello Sport, “I stopped those negotiations [with City]. By the time they had made their move from England I had already decided I would be staying in Florence. Am I happy to still be here? Absolutely, and I have no regrets.”

Should Mancini manage to pull off a possible swoop for Jovetic, it would certainly be a shrewd piece of business from the Italian. After joining Fiorentina for around £8m in 2008, Jovetic has experienced four hugely successful campaigns with La Viola, even though he was ruled out for one of those seasons with a cruciate ligament injury. In total, he has managed 28 goals in 89 appearances, with a lot of those strikes coming from his secondary position as a winger.

It would also represent another piece of business with Fiorentina. It was only a couple of weeks ago that the Blues completed a deal for Matija Nastasić from the Seria A outfit, with Stefan Savic moving in the opposite direction.
