City chasing Benzema

It appears as though Real Madrid frontman Karim Benzema is top of Roberto Mancini’s shopping list this summer. City are understood to be one of several clubs pursuing the France international, although his signature is certainly going to be difficult considering the fact he is more than satisfied with life in Spain at the moment.

There have been rumours for the past three or four years that Benzema is set for a transfer to England, with Manchester United and Arsenal usually the interested parties. While it’s thought that United are still looking in to the possibility of making a move for the 24-year-old, Benzema’s representatives have already held discussions with City about a possible transfer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Benzema’s UK agent Jonathan Hope said, “I have put Benzema forward after a talk with a very reliable and high source at Manchester City as a possible summer signing. We are working closely to secure the exclusive mandate to obtain the paperwork firstly after serious interest from the champions.”

It is also worth reading some more of Hope’s comments, with the agent stating that his client has already ruled out a move to neighbours Manchester United, “The player has stated himself he will not go to Manchester United, however, he has not ruled out a switch to join the champions. I will have a clearer picture soon after the Euros when I have time to sit with his representatives.”

Of course, prizing Benzema away from Real Madrid could prove exceptionally hard for City. Had Roberto Mancini confirmed his interest last summer, when Benzema was struggling to force his way into Real’s side, they may have had a chance. However, this term the Frenchman has been a revelation, bagging thirty two goals for his club as they went on to win the Spanish title. Bearing this in mind, it could take a disgusting amount of money for Benzema to be playing in City’s colours in the next campaign.
