CITY CELEBRATES TITLE WIN WITH VICTORY
Newly crowned Premier League champions Manchester City were able to celebrate their title win with victory at Newcastle United in a seven-goal thriller. The Citizens came from behind twice to beat the Magpies 4-3 in their latest match in the league.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola made a lot of changes to his normal XI as he gave a lot of fringe players the chance to start a Premier League game including veteran goalkeeper Scott Carson who had not played for the club until now.
Newcastle United barely enjoyed one quarter of the possession in the opening minutes but that didn’t stop them from taking the lead through Emil Krafth. Manchester City defender Joao Canceloequalisedfor the Premier League champions before Spanish international Ferran Torres scored one of his three goals on the night to give the visiting team the lead for the first time in the game.
Englishman Callum Wilson is the first choice striker at Newcastle United but he missed the Manchester City game and his replacement Joelinton was the recipient of the second Newcastle United goal. The Brazilian player scored from the penalty spot to ensure that his team went into the break on level terms.
Arsenal loanee Joe Willock gave Newcastle United the lead again in the second half via the rebound from his saved penalty by Carson. Willock is on loan from North London side Arsenal and he won the penalty after he was brought down by fellow Englishman Kyle Walker.
Spanish player Torres then scored two goals for Manchester City to complete his first hattrick in the Premier League and take his tally to 13 goals for the Citizens in all competitions. His two goals in the second half helped City to edge the seven-goal thriller 4-3 and move 13 points clear of Manchester United.
The result ensured that Manchester City set a new record for consecutive away wins. They have now won 12 games on the trot away from home in the Premier League.
