Silva confident that Chelsea cant continue form

Manchester City currently trail table leaders Chelsea by five points, but midfielder David Silva reckons that this is not a substantial gap for Jose Mourinho’s men to relax. It has been long maintained that Chelsea and Manchester City were the favourites for the title this season. However, dropped points against the likes of Arsenal and Stoke City mean that Manchester City are already five points behind Chelsea after seven matches in the season. The Premier League resumes this weekend with City taking on Tottenham at the Etihad stadium.

Ahead of this match, Silva will be aware that City could potentially drop yet more points that will put them at a major disadvantage with regards to retaining their title. He has attempted the old ploy of getting into the minds of the opposition by suggesting that Chelsea do not have it all their way in the remainder of the campaign. Jose Mourinho’s team are against Crystal Palace this weekend at Selhurst Park, which is a place where they dropped three points last season. Chelsea usually struggle to get the rhythm going after an international break, but this season they appear to be a confident bunch.

After moving into a new training ground facility that has been created at the cost of more than £ 200 million, Silva will be hoping to get three points against Spurs. “Chelsea have made great transfers, they have a great team, a great squad. But it doesn’t mean things are going to be easy, especially in England. He wanted to score but he was unlucky. He has scored today and we hope that he can keep the goals coming,” said the Spanish midfielder about Chelsea and their top scoring centre forward, Diego Costa. Mourinho has hinted that Costa may be unavailable this weekend against Palace due to injury concerns.

City suffer disappointment

Manchester City suffered yet another defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich but they came very close to getting a result at the Allianz Arena. Manuel Pellegrini criticised the seeding system of UEFA just before the match after City were once again drawn up against Bayern in the group stages of the Champions League. However, it was much better performance from the Premier League outfit than in previous seasons after the almost snatched a draw only to be beaten by a late goal from their former player, Jerome Boateng. The 1-0 win for Bayern gives them a great start to the campaign.

There are few doubts about the ability of the German club to withstand the City team that has been improving a lot in recent years. After winning the league title two times in the last three seasons, City would have been hoping to have much better than their recent visits to this ground. However, they were coming up against a Bayern Munich team that has failed to win only one of their competitive matches this season. The 1-1 draw with Schalke stands out from the rest of the crowd, as it remains the only match were Guardiola’s Bayern Munich failed to win.

After the match, Guardiola praised his team by saying that they showed a lot of desire to get this victory. “Everybody is happy we have our first three points in this hard group. We had many chances against a very good team. At the start we had some problem with the possession. We then switched from three at the back to four at the back and it got better. You have to understand that Rafinha and Benatia have played very little recently. They played well and showed big heart,” said Guardiola, who was once linked with the managerial job at City.

Cleverly Believes That His Future Is looking up

Tom Cleverley believes that being given the opportunity to skipper Manchester United in the pre-season friendly match against the Italian club Roma is a sign that his future at Old Trafford under the new management is not gloomy as it was under the previous management.

Cleverley did not have a memorable Premier League at all in 2013-14 as his form was off. He was not used well either. Despite being a specialist midfielder, he was asked to play at other positions making the job even more difficult for him. Towards the end of the season, he fell out of favour completely.

Because of him not playing regularly for the Red Devils in the second half of the previous season, Roy Hodgson, despite being his admirer, had to overlook him for the World Cup inBrazil.

All in all, it was a season in which all the things went in the wrong direction for the 24-year old playmaker.

Cleverley was not even certain to stay at Old Trafford this summer. Everton was interested to get him in and there were suggestions that Louis Van Gaal should let him go, but, that hasn’t happened.

Van Gaal, after taking charge, has actually shown quite a bit of faith in Cleverley playing him regularly in the pre-season games and the English midfielder has repaid too by performing well.

If the reports are to be believed, the Red Devils now might be offering Cleverley a contract extension pretty soon.

Talking to the reporters about the stick that he got from the Manchester United fans last season, Cleverley said, “Criticism, if anything, makes you stronger mentally. Every player gets criticized. You can’t keep thinking about that. You just have to move on.”

Cleverley has so far played 54 league matches for United and has scored 3 goals.

Pellegrini Manages To Join Elites

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini managed to become one of the few managers English football history to have won the Premier League title in his first season in charge of a club in England. Not only did they lead City to the title, but he also made them exciting to watch. This was a remarkable turnaround from the days of Roberto Mancini, whose teams were criticised for not playing good football sometimes. Kit man Les Chapman has revealed that Pellegrini has not only made the squad as winners, but also brought about a new atmosphere with the team.

He says that Pellegrini has made the atmosphere at the club extremely likeable. City will be starting the new season as favourites for the title, while they will be targeting an entry into the semifinals or finals of the Champions League. This was one of the disappointing aspects of last campaign, as City failed to progress past the last 16 of the Champions League. They came up against one of the top teams in the world, Barcelona. However, this may not be an excuse for the coming campaign since this team has already won the league title twice in the last three years.

Chapman says that the current City squad believes that they can win the league title once again. “How do Mancini and Pellegrini differ? Well, [Pellegrini] actually speaks, which is more than the previous one did. He is a cool guy, a gentleman and says hello. It’s certainly a lot happier dressing room,” said Chapman. Apart from winning the league title, City also won the League Cup last season. The club has made some crucial signings in the summer, which will help them overcome the limitations imposed by UEFA with respect to spending and the amount of losses they can make.

Silva Expected To Be Pivotal For Spain

Manchester City star David Silva has claimed that he is hoping to successfully defend the World Cup title with the Spanish national team. As one of the important players for the current world champions, Silva is expected to start the first match against Netherlands. Spain go into the tournament as the defending champions after having lifted the title in South Africa. Silva comes on the back of title winning season with City. Ahead of the opening match, the 28-year-old has claimed that it will be very important that Spain get three points against Netherlands.

Since the other group opponents are not going to give in easily, any dropped points will provide the momentum to the likes of Chile and Netherlands. Australia are the final opponents and they are considered as the only easy opponent. Silva is under no illusion that defending the World Cup title will be very difficult after only Brazil have managed to do it in the long history. This time around, Spain come with a lot of major absentees like Carlos Puyol and Victor Valdes. The likes of Xavi are also approaching the end of the careers.

Silva was definitely not a first choice in the 2010 squad, but his image has been boosted immensely after two Premier league titles with City.

“We know the environment that awaits us. Now we have a base here and that’s great for us. We are ready. The first game is crucial and if we win it, it’s an important game. I feel more comfortable behind the front line. I am very good in that position. I attempt to adapt. We have very good strikers and we hope to score a lot of goals,” said the Spaniard. After the match against Netherlands, Spain take on Chile before ending the group stages against Australia.

City Close To Finishing With Silver

Manchester City are now very close to winning the Premier league title after a 4-0 win over Aston Villa in the penultimate game of the season. City have led the table for only 11 days in the whole campaign, but they are set to leapfrog everyone else at the most crucial stage. There have been a lot of combinations over the season, as four different teams have led the table during this period. Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool have dropped points at crucial stages of the campaign to allow city in this position.

Manuel Pellegrini, though, does not expect his team to do the unthinkable and go out of the title race on the final day of the season. Instead, he expects City to now add to the League Cup that they have already won the season. City will need just point to win the title against West Ham. They have come back to win the title on the final day of the season in 2012, but Pellegrini says that his team will not be making any mistakes this time around. He says that City will be going out for a victory against a mid-table team that has little to play for.

City have become only the second team to reach 100 goals in a single season.

“Winning the title is very important but so is the way we are going to win it. There are many ways to win it but I choose this one – attractive football. Of course I expect to win the title now. It is the last game and we know if we win the last game we will win the title. It has been a strange season because we have never been at the top of the table. Now we are top and I hope we are not going to lose on Sunday,” said Pellegrini.
