Manchester City fans have been handed some superb news today, after David Silva confirmed that his representatives are in talks with the club over a new contract. Out of all of City’s big name signings over the last few years, few people will disagree that David Silva has been one of the most promising. The Spanish winger has been an ever present fixture in Roberto Mancini’s starting eleven and following such brilliant form, he has been linked with moves across the continent. Fortunately for City fans, it appears as though Silva is more than happy to say, with sources claiming that the former Valencia man is even interested in extending his current contract. City fans can breathe a sigh of relief this morning, with dynamic midfielder David Silva pledging his future to the club despite reported interest from Real Madrid.
Silva has become something of a revelation at the Etihad Stadium since signing from Valencia in 2010, managing to score nineteen goals in just over one hundred appearances for the club. Having contributed hugely to their recent Premier League success, it’s no surprise to see that Silva has caught the eye of some of Europe’s other big clubs, with Real Madrid thought to have at least made an enquiry over the 26-year-old’s availability.
However, Silva’s agent has today stated that his client is more than happy with his situation at Manchester City. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Julio Llorente said, “David has signed a long deal with Manchester City and is very happy at the club. Football is always unpredictable but he wants to stay in England. Real Madrid is a big club as well and they were interested when he was at Valencia but the deal was not possible. We are ignoring the plans of Real Madrid because he is very integrated at City and winning the Premier League has only increased his commitment to the club.”
That would appear to be the end of the saga, with the 26-year-old contracted to City until 2014 and seemingly happy to stay until then. Moreover, the former Valencia man is all but certain of a regular starting place at City, having become the first name on the team sheet through the two years he has spent at the Etihad Stadium. With Roberto Martinez also not looking to invest in the wide areas of his team, it appears as though Silva’s situation at City is perfect and he has absolutely no reason to seek a new club.
