Pep Guardiola has tried to contribute his share of the mind games by claiming that Chelsea have been unstoppable this season.
A number of Premier League managers have tried to unsettle Chelsea, who have been the best team in the Premier league by a significant margin. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp suggested prior to the end of 2016 that Chelsea would be struggling in the league if not for the presence of Diego Costa. Back then, the Spaniard was scoring most of the goals and was leading the goal scoring charts. However, his form has deteriorated significantly ever since rumours about a move to China came about.
However, it has not been a problem for Chelsea who have just kept on winning. Even though the incredible 13 game winning run might have ended with the loss against Tottenham, the blues have been able to extend their lead at the top of the table courtesy of their main title rivals dropping points along the way. Chelsea’s recent form has not been spectacular with the team only managing three wins in the last five games. Continue reading
Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus said on Wednesday that he had been “surprised” by his extraordinary start to life in the Premier League.
The Brazilian forward who has scored three goals in four games since completing his 27 million move from Brazilian side Palmeiras, has admitted that he is delighted with his strong start for the club, but is ‘very surprised’ at how fast it has happened.
The 19-year old rising star arrived in England last month after City agreed a deal with Brazilian side Palmeiras in pre-season.
While some overseas players take time to adjust to the physicality and pace of the Premier League, Jesus has settled in immediately with three goals in four appearances, including a double in Sunday’s 2-1 win at home to Swansea.
Such has been his impact, he has kept Argentina ace Sergio Aguero out of the side for the last two matches and Kelechi Iheanacho out of the squad altogether, which has in turn led to speculation about the future of both strikers at Manchester. Continue reading
According to Man City manager, Pep Guardiola, the club is out of the league race as they are far behind Chelsea with ten points, following a loss to Everton at Goodison Park.
The loss happened to be the heaviest league loss in Guardiola’s career as a manager.
Concerning his thoughts about the gap between his team and Chelsea, Guardiola admitted that the gap is a great one, affirming that ten is a lot of points. Although, he has encouraged his team players to remain focused and stay together in unity during bad moments and ignore what the table might have to tell until the end of the season.
Guardiola said: “At the end of the season, we are going to evaluate our level and how our performance was, how the coach was, how the players were. After that we are going to decide. We created chances, but we didn’t score and when they had chances, they punished us.” Continue reading
Pep Guardiola has confirmed that defender Vincent Kompany still remains in his plans despite the numerous injury problems faced by the Belgian international.
The last time the 30-year-old made more than 40 appearances in a single campaign across all competitions was back in the 2011-12 campaign. Since then, he has been plagued by a one injury after the other and it has especially become worse in the last couple of seasons. He made only 22 appearances last season and most were as a substitute, while the season he has suffered featured in only five games.
Kompany was expected to be an integral part of the Guardiola regime considering that he is one of the top ball-playing centre backs around. However, his injury concern is a major problem for the club considering that they have been struggling on a defensive front with the leadership skills of the Belgian.
Manuel Pellegrini has opened up on the exit from Manchester City by saying that the club always wanted to bring in Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard took over from the Chilean in the summer. During his three years with City, Pellegrini was responsible for winning the league title once and FA Cup. He also won the League Cup in his final season at the club. Unlike at Bayern Munich, Pep Guardiola will not be faced with the huge amount of pressure from his predecessor. As a result, he has started the season extremely well with the team conceding the top spot only now.
Pellegrini’s exit was confirmed even before the end of last season. The former Real Madrid boss says that the club had been trying to get the former Barcelona manager even as back as 2013. Then, Guardiola decided to avoid the City revolution, which was still in its infancy, and join Bayern Munich instead.
The move to the German club has brought him a fair share of success and criticism. After being able to win the German league title three times in succession and in record time, Guardiola was unable to repeat the Champions League success from Barcelona.
Pellegrini says that since City were very clear about their objectives, he does not have any problem with the exit.
“When they signed me, [Manchester] City were very clear with me. They came for me and they told me that they wanted Pep Guardiola or me.Guardiola did not want to sign and I did it for three years. I fulfilled my phase and Pep wanted to coach in England because he had spent many years in Barcelona. There is no problem.I had two offers [from Spain]. Luckily, there were teams interested in me. It does not matter who they were,” said Pellegrini.
It has been a little over 9 months since Pep Guardiola took charge of Manchester City as the head coach and so far things have been going fairly impressively for the Spanish coach after having gone through a string of 6 successive Premier League victories but Pep Guardiola and his squad have started to drop points after drawing with Everton, Southampton and with Middlesbrough.
Pep Guardiola recently revealed how things have been going for him in the Premier League as he had never before taken up a managerial position in the top tier English League until he accepted the coaching role in Manchester City.
“The games are always open here because opponents put long balls. All the strikers are tall, second balls, free-kicks, throw-ins: they are playing for that,”
“They are playing to look for that situation. In 90 minutes you always miss something, you make a minimum mistake and they are clinical there.I remember the first game. Sunderland didn’t arrive in the first action and then the goal from Jermain Defoe. They are good and that is a talent. They arrive but I think when you have more chances and concede fewer you have more opportunities to win the game and that is my point of view.” Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola said as he spoke about the Premier League.
After 11 Premier League matches, Manchester City are sitting at the 3rd spot with 24 points. This season of the top tier English League was expected to be one of the most difficult and exciting ones in recent times and this was mostly due to the highly rated managers that were appointed to top clubs such as: Manchester United with Jose Mourinho, Chelsea with Antonio Conte, Liverpool with Jurgen Klopp and Manchester City with Pep Guardiola.
So far, the English league has not disappointed with almost all of the top clubs that were expected to make a genuine charge are still in the top spots competing for the coveted league title and the season has only just started.
Joe Hart hints that instead of taking Pep Guardiola’s views to heart and doubting himself, he would like to find a manager who rates him and respects his way of goalkeeping.
As per Hart, there are many views about a Football player and the views can be contrasting. Someone would say a player is fantastic and the other might say no, he is not. But, a player can’t listen to everyone.
In the case of Hart, it’s only the views of the selected people he says he listens to.
The goalie was quoted as, “Look, this I had understood long back that I could not make everyone happy with my game. There are people I have special bonding with and I leave it to them to see how I am going and when they come to me with an advice, I really consider it and implement it, but, I can’t implement every advice I get or I can’t tell myself ‘I have to show this guy that his opinion is wrong’ because with that mind-set, I will not help myself.” Continue reading
Pep Guardiola says that he will not change his approach to the game despite suffering yet another heavy defeat at the hands of Barcelona.
The former Barcelona manager returned to the Camp Nou hoping for a better experience this time around. Since leaving the Catalan club in 2012, Guardiola has suffered heavy defeat upon his return to the Spanish club. One of the most high-profile came in the Champions League semi-final when his Bayern Munich team suffered a 3-0 loss. Guardiola’s tactics has been questioned especially when it comes to the big matches.
Apart from his all-conquering Barcelona team, his teams have not had the same kind of influence in big matches. The overindulgence in trying to play out from the back was once again the reason for the calamitous result against Barcelona. Manchester City made too many mistakes in possession and it allowedthe home team to take advantage time and time again. Guardiola’s insistence on the goalkeeper being part of the outfield players by being involved in passing the ball at every opportunity was once again exposed, as Claudio Bravo committed a mistake and then was given a straight red card for handling the ball outside the box. Pep Guardiola is not in two minds about what kind of stuff he needs from the man standing between the sticks for him and is backing himself on the change he has made in the goalkeeping slot at Manchester City.
The coach praises the previous no. 1 Hart and rates him as a good goalie, but, in his view, a goalie should not just be limited to stopping the shots coming towards the post, but, should also move from his position and try and show skills with his feet, making the passes to the players and he can’t see that quality in Hart.
According to Guardiola, the Sky Blues could not have been the same team if it had not been for Hart’s solidity and he is worthy of a lot of praise and nobody is pleased to see that man on the side-lines, but, he can’t help it because he is a coach and a coach always has to displease people because he will always be dropping some player or the other.
Pep Guardiola is one of the more recognized players in the world of football and a highly praised one as well as he was a hugely influential figure in Barcelona’s European dominance, the Spanish manager is generally considered to be the mastermind behind Barcelona’s reign of success where they were able to win just about every club title starting from 2008 until 2011.
It was because of this success that he received offers from top clubs and he later opted to join the German outfit Bayern Munich and now his latest managerial position is with Manchester City.
This is the first time that Guardiola has taken charge of a top Premier League club and now the pressure is starting to grow on him as the Spanish manager is expected to push Manchester City to new heights of success and possibly even to their first Champions League title.
The 2016-17 Premier League season hasn’t even kicked off and things already are starting to seem difficult for Pep Guardiola as the Spanish manager has identified an obstacle that will make things more difficult for him and his new squad to win big pieces of silverware.
The Copa America and the 2016 Euro’s has forced some players of Manchester City to stay away from Pep Guardiola as they have other matches to play with different teams and this has deprived Guardiola from having more time with his new team which is something that he really needs in order to see prepare his squad for the upcoming season.
“I don’t like to complain. I would like to have more time from the beginning. I would like to have more friendly games. Competitions finish so late and start again so early so we have to adapt. We have to travel in China. It is what it is. They’re far away from who we want to be but that is normal. People cannot imagine how difficult it is to build up something, to try to create something, to try to play with new ideas’’ Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola said as he stated that he would like to have had more time with a few of his players.
